Now let’s talk fabrics: fabrics come in light filtering, blackout (or room darkening), and privacy light filtering.
Fabrics offer different light filtering and visibility depending on percent openness chosen. For instance, a fabric at a 5% opening is going to cut down the glare but will still allow view through visibility during the day, and, at night, the reverse effect will happen.
The question will always come up, “Can I have privacy while still letting the light in?” Yes, you can! There a number of options that provide privacy and allow light to come through in the same fabric. Dealers need to know there is a difference between 1% and 0.5%. Light filtering doesn’t mean you can’t see through it. It is important to explain to the consumer that if they are looking for privacy in the evening with lights on, the better choice is a privacy light filtering fabric. These fabrics will have a smaller percent openness- we recommend a 0.5% to ensure the best privacy option.
Now let’s talk about blackout fabric; this is a wonderful solution for that consumer who needs to sleep during the day or has a media room that needs additional functionality. Blackout fabrics have the ability to completely block all light from penetrating through the fabric. It is important to note that all roller shades are cut with fabric deductions to accommodate the motor. This fabric deduction can create light gap or light bleed around the edges of the window. A great solution for light bleed is the addition of black out side channels. Side channels can be used with all fabrics, and are the perfect addition to any high-tech media room.
Privacy can be a big concern for the consumer; it’s important to let them decide how private a fabric is- which is why TWO offers multiple fabrics in different openness options to meet the individual privacy needs of each customer.
