Sunscreen to Blackout: Learn the Difference Between Types of Fabrics

Our fabrics are sourced from only the best fabric houses and offer a range of benefits from UV protection, flame retardancy, Green Guard, and PVC-free choices.

Our ranges have varying degrees of filtration from sheer to complete blackout, giving you a choice to create privacy, a completely dark room, or a sheerly covered window where you can still enjoy your view.

The photo above is a great example of shades for those who only desire a sunscreen. This shade allows in more light and you still have a great view.

The fabrics we offer come in a variety of shades to match the design of your interior and exterior. All ranging in openness percentage. If you prefer more light in the room then it’s likely that you’ll want to choose an option offering 1% or 5% openness.

The higher the percentage of openness the more light that will come through the screen. Shadesol Alfresco has an openness of 8-14% and Colourvue has an openness of 0- 5%. This allows you to have more light to work with while enjoying your patio and still offers the privacy you desire in your space. Colourvue allows the same, with the exception of letting in less light or none at all.

Another option you may like to consider is a light-filtering shade, this blocks out a little more light than the sunscreen shades. You are still able to see through the shades, just not as much as you would with a lower openness percentage.

If you prefer blackout shades, you will want to look at your Colourvue options that offer 0% openness. Blackout shades are perfect for those days you want to sleep in a little longer or watch a movie without any interference from sunlight reflecting off of the TV screen.
