Employee Spotlight – Devin Hicks

Name/Age Devin Hicks / 34

Where are you from? Austin, TX

What do you do at TWO? Austin Facility Manager

What do you enjoy most about your job: I have a small but quickly growing team that hand-crafts the shades for your customers. By far, the most rewarding part of my job is helping other people to be their best and achieve things they never thought were possible. I’m also the resident lightbulb changer and am working on developing a more streamlined process to keep our factory well lit.

Tell us about an interesting project/installation that you recently work on: My day to day responsibilities keep me in the factory, making sure things are running smoothly. I’m really only called out to work on a job if it is very large, unique, or challenging based on the installation type. The exciting thing about a challenging job that is that they’re usually really cool and unique applications of our products: 20’ long outdoor shades, famous people’s homes where you have to sign NDAs, historic building renovations, etc.

While I could tell you about some really cool jobs, one thing I love about the TWO shade program is that it’s designed for everyday use. Like the good old days when a dealer could sell and install multiple houses of faux blinds a day, Colourvue is just as simple to sell and install, but the dealer can make even more money. That’s interesting to me.

Tell us something interesting about yourself:
I’m a 3rd generation window covering person.
I’m over-educated and have the student loans to prove it.
I have a 2-year-old son.
I bring my dog, Enzo, to work with me every day.

I don’t know how this industry “infects” people, but I’m infected. When I was about 8, I flipped the bottom rail of a mini blind at my friend’s house. It was the arch nemesis of the mini blinds that my dad’s company made. I promptly called home and asked if it was okay that I play with Calen even though he had “the wrong” blinds in his house. My parents said yes.
