Mortise and Tenon Joint

Mortise and Tenon Joint

The foundation is the key to anything sturdy and solid. Having the right tools in place will guarantee that what you have built will stand firm. That is the purpose of a mortise and tenon joint. A lot like a wooden dowel; used for putting together a smaller piece of furniture for your home. The mortise and tension is a type of joint that bridges two pieces of wood or another material together with a tenon, or tongue, that sticks out and lodges into the pre-drilled mortise hole.

It’s possible that your shutters may have been put together using wooden dowels rather,  but this can lead to your shutters sagging from the lack of support.  As opposed to the mortise and tenon joint that has two ¼ inch pieces of wood are intended to hold the weight of the shutter panel.

Mortise and tenon joints are an extension of the top and bottom rail that interlocks with the groove of the stile. This gives the mortise and tenon joint support for larger amounts of weight. This is due to the full rail providing support, rather than to the ¼ inch section of wood used in a dowel. By using mortise and tenon, TWO ensures that our panels will last for a lifetime.
